Hey TWIST girls!
Seventeen-year-old aspiring singer/songwriter Carruthers stopped by the TWIST office yesterday and gave us a concert and interview! Mia is one of the stars of MTV's new reality show "Taking The Stage," which follows five students who go to the School for Creative and Performing Arts. Every episode has a performance plus all of the drama of a regular school. Listen to the songs she sang for TWIST and check out the questions she answered for us:
TWIST: How did the opportunity to be on the MTV show "Taking the Stage" come about?
Mia: I think it all started with Nick Lachey. He loves the school and he's an alumni. He pitched it to MTV and MTV liked it. So he came out and wanted to talk to the student body and see who it would want to follow and whose stories they wanted to tell.
T: Can you give us any hints about what is coming up in the next episodes?
M: It's high school. So imagine what it is like in your school and then add "Fame" to it.
T: Why should people watch the show?
M: I think everybody is drawn to art. It's so cool when it's kids doing it. We are professionals but we still have a lot of other stuff to go through too. Like we get our hearts broken, we fight, we love each other. Just everything that everyone is going through, except we express it through our art. It' really cool because it will show kids that instead of talking about it or not talking about it, you can do dance it out or sing it out. It's another outlet.
T: Do you get nervous before you perform?
M: No. I get really anxious because I want to be on stage. I'm just like, "I want to be out there!" That what makes me a little bit uncomfortable, but right when I get on stage, I'm like "Yes!"
T: Do you have any celebrity crushes?
M: John Mayer. Chace Crawford. Daniel Radcliffe. I'm obsessed with Harry Potter.
T: Have you read Twilight?
M: Yes, I'm obsessed with Twilight books as well. I love Edward. I'm Team Edward, all the way.

I watched the first show and it was really good! I'm really glad Mia won the talent show! She's a great singer and guitarist, I hope we hear more from her soon!

Girl needs a recording contract, like, yesterday! I love the song she performed for the radio contest. I wish it was on iTunes, so I could download. She's an amazing performer...she puts so many pop stars to shame. I like her folksy vibe...but could definitely see a label making her into a cross between JoJo and Kelly Clarkson.
I watch the show every thursday and i lov the show i want to go there and i really think it would be a fun experience to go there because i love to sing qabd dance and i love musicand the art of it im in my schools chorus and i love it i wish we had a show then it would be a real show but i love mia im so on the team with MIA.. Jasmine is kinda stuck up but what tyler did for her was sooooo sweet i so cried when i saw it last night......0

i luv da way mia sings..but wat i dnt lyke how she is always up on tyler uz he talks 2 jasmine..it jus seems lyke 2 me she is really jealous of jasmine because she lykes tyler.
I like MIA songs but I don't like her...we all know that she likes tyler but she needs to respect the fact that he's in a relationship with Jasmine...I think she's hurt about her ex breaking up with her but Jasmine is my girl and MiA needs to show some respect
I love Mia! This brings me back to high school I remember all the drama the hormones.. Mia is soooo talented and as far as the whole tyler thing, u can't blame her, she likes him n he makes himself available even tho he's supposedly with jasmine, soo that's to no fault of Mia's... Plus Jasmine seems reaaally stuck up/ fake, and wayyy 2 needy, her days are numbered... Team Mia! Does she have a myspace or place 2 listen to her music?

I hate Mia! She needs to hop off Tyler and go find her own thing. & even though Tyler needs to take responsibility as well and realize he's in a relationship, he's a boy and thats what boys do.Mia needs to be women enough to walk away from the situation instead trying to get him to leave her. Mia is a HATER!! That's all she is, and she isn't good for anything else and I hate her music. TEAM JASMINE ALL THE WAY!!!
