TWIST just got off the phone with Privileged star Lucy Hale (and David's Henrie's GF!). Only TWIST got the scoop straight from Lucy about her auditioning for New Moon.
"Well, I did read [for the role of Jane]. We had some talks about it. But I think they just offered it to Dakota Fanning, the role I was interested in. Which is great - I'm a huge fan of her! So, I think she'll probably take that. And I mean, as of right now, I'm not sure if it's going to work out. But I'm definitely still going to see it!"
That's the spirit, Lucy! Would she be open to other roles in New Moon? We had to know!
"I'd take any role!" she spilled to us. "Leah Clearwater, but I think there's already talks with somebody else. I think they've already offered it to someone. I mean, we'll see. If not, it's all good."

not that i have anything against lucy, i think that dakota fanning should take the role of jane, because jane is supposed to be a youngish girl (like early teens), so dakotas perfect! and leah clearwater is indian, and lucy is pretty pale.

interesting that you're supposedly our number 1 source for twilight yet you haven't clued into the fact that leah clearwater is not in the new moon script, therefore no one has auditioned for the part or is in talks for it. it was confirmed by the screenwriter herself.

The most ridiculous reason used is that she's too Famous. EVERYONE IN THIS MOVIE-thts a main character at least- IS "FAMOUS" NOW! I mean ALOT of people now who Kristen Stewart is, Robert pattinson, Taylor Lautner are. Paparazzi are following them all over the place now! Hundreds of thousands, mayb millions of people know these names. Evry1 is famous now...it makes no sense to say she's to famous for the Twilight series.(Only talkin about Dakota here)

When I read New moon I imagined Dakota Fanning as Jane anyways. It fits her description perfectly. I thought is was de'ja vu or something when I heard that she might play the role. I'm psyked! Anyways... they pick whoever they pick for the New Moon roles, and the roles for Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. We can do nothing about it. So lets just Summit pick the cast, not antagonize the actors if some people don't like them, and let the movie be made. Critic the actors and actresses after we see their performance in New Moon!!! Can't wait for the move =P

They didn't offer the role for Leah to Vanessa Hudgens since Leah isn't even going to be in the movie, according to the screenwriter! I think Dakota Fanning is perfect for Jane. I think Lucy Hale looks a bit old to play a 12-14 year old vampire.
In my opinion, Jane isn't 12-14. I think she's more along the lines of a 17 year old. But that's just my opinion we Stephenie Meyer described her in New Moon.

Dakota Fanning is great for jane, even if her hair isn't dark or short. Her physique and facial structure is the same as was described, she can TOTALLY pull off looking really creepy, and she can ACT. She is a prefect choice, and she obviously wants the role. I for one am pretty certain she has got the role, they probably just haven't finalized it properly so they aren't allowed to confirm anything.
As for lucy hale playing leah, i think some one who is native american would be better, but putting that aside isn't she a little short for a werewolf? Maybe emily could be a good choice.

I can honestly say that I don't think Vanessa will be very good...
mostly because of the personality portrayed in Leah and I think Vanessa's a bit too nice and she's been in too much Disney already...

I think Dakota Fanning is a great choice for Jane. She is the right age and look, plus she is a fabulous actress! Also, I hope the people at Summit will consider the Native American actress Q'orianka Kilcher as Leah Clearwater for Eclipse. She is going to be 19 this year, she is a real Native American, and she is a wonderful actress. Anyone who has seen her play Pocahontas in The New World would agree, I'm sure. I think I would be sick if Vanessa Hudgens got the role. I'm sorry, but this girl cannot act.
